Strategy
Thanks to a preliminary project conducted from 2000 to 2003 in Brittany, together with the different scientific partners (IFREMER, IUEM, MNHN (marine research centres of Dinard and Concarneau), Roscoff biologic centre, EPHE/CNRS laboratory of Dinard, CEVA in Pleubian), and with the support of DIREN (regional administrative body for the environment), Région Bretagne (Brittany administrative body) and « Total Corporate Foundation for biodiversity and the sea », a strategy was defined in which different approaches can be distinguished. This strategy has been operational since 2003. 

Synergies
This network involves implementing numerous multidisciplinary actions and searching for synergies between the different partners in the project: 

Synthesizing maps, with a view to informing rapidly and giving a coherent general view at the regional level. These actions concern Brittany’s seawaters, they are based on existing data. 

Implementing a “watchdog system”, which detects with great precision –in well defined geographical zones or on specific habitats- the middle-term and long-term extensions of seabed habitats/biocenosis (low frequency monitoring): 

Vegetal cover monitoring in tidal zones (Fucus) by remote sensing, and monitoring of the temporal evolution of sea grasses from orthophotographs.

Detailed cartographic data collection from selected zones (“zone level”): maps of the different seabed habitats. They give information on the selected points, follow the comparative modifications of the different biocenosis and help all partners to reach their local management objectives.

More localized monitoring (at “selected points level”) of selected control biocenosis (monitoring biological parameters at medium frequency : composition and specific abundance, cover). On this level, it is possible to measure, more accurately modifications in seabed habitats and the associated biodiversity.
