Diving

Diving provides direct sea floor observation, including counting individual species on radial quadrats, etc. This method is precise and efficient, but is only used intermittently. Divers often use survey reading cards that can be submerged : they write down information on fauna, flora, sea floor morphology, and facies. Photography is also a useful medium to identify organisms, and video provides precision as to their distribution.
