Aerial views of emerged areas or areas of very shallow waters can be mainly taken. Colour views enable to draw biomorphosedimentary maps. Infrared views (not very often used) are well adapted to the detection of vegetal covers. Depending on the shot angle, oblique views can be distinguished from vertical views ; the resolution used is half a meter.

New digitization and ortho-adjustment techniques enable to get aerial views, which geometry is compatible with the map projections used.

Further to the Erika wreckage (oil spill), a programme on systematic acquisitions of colour orthophotographs has been implemented along the the English Channel and Atlantic Ocean coastlines, at low tides.
